An e-learning course for working with families from pre-birth to eight

This course provides practitioners and professionals with a guide on how to consistently and compellingly share information with families about caring for their young child.

The course is based on the hardcopy Practice guide for working with families from pre-birth to eight years, which was created because parents reported that they received inconsistent and confusing information.

By applying the information, best practices and shared values in this course, professionals and practitioners can support families to give children the best start in life.

The resource was developed as part of the national project, Engaging families in the early childhood development story. The Standing Council on School Education and Early Childhood (SCSEEC) commissioned and funded the project and it was managed by the Department for Education and Child Development, South Australia.

A National Steering Group provided direction for the project, and included representatives from:

  • the SCSEEC's Early Childhood Development Working Group (ECDWG)
  • the Standing Council on Community and Disability Services Advisory Council (SCCDSAC)
  • the Australian Health Ministers Advisory Council
  • the Child Health and Wellbeing Standing Committee (CHWSC)
  • the Australian Government.
